What better way to celebrate Ontario Craft Beer Week in Ontario, than hearing that the Canadian government, both Federal and Provincial, are investing in more than 20 projects to assist craft breweries. The Canadian Agricultural Partnership is also onboard.
The program is designed to:
- Expand operations
- Contribute more to the economy
- Improve marketing
- Support technology solutions
- Market products both locally and internationally
Microbreweries Are Helping the Canadian Economy
According to the Ontario Craft Brewers Association, microbreweries have greatly added to the countries economy. The industry directly employs over 2,000 people. The industry also indirectly employs thousands of people in the following jobs:
- Food Service
This results in a contribution to Ontario’s economy of over $1 billion annually.
The Program Supports Projects Like
Great Lakes Brewery – $75,000 – To purchase new environmentally-friendly equipment that will increase production.
Shacklands Brewing Co. – $2,275 – For marketing purposes.
Amsterdam Brewing Co. – $148,750 – To purchase a wet grist milling system, increasing product quality and waste reduction.
These are just a few examples of how the Ontario Government is assisting agri-product and agri-food sectors.
The Ontario government is very proud of the craft beer industry and its positive effects on the province and country. They have recognized that these small breweries are able to be creative and can supply the demand for craft beers. For this reason, the government is intent on supporting them so their businesses can grow, and they can bring additional products to the market. It will also encourage the start-up of new microbreweries.

Many craft breweries are now renting their services and facilities to be used as wedding reception venues. This has become especially popular with the younger generation.
